Africa Games Week is set to kick off on 1 December. The event returns to the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town and marks the 5th edition of the popular African video games business showcase. Africa Games Week is visited by hundreds of developers from all over the world as everyone joins together to connect and grow the African Game Industry.
Not only does Africa Games Week showcase the best African gaming talent but it also gives them the opportunity to meet other like-minded industry veterans and network with businesses from all over the world.
Speakers and sponsors at Africa Games Week 2022 include the likes of Google, Epic Games, Xsolla, 24 Bit Games, Renderheads and the French Institute – to name a few. But the event isn’t just business, attendees also have the opportunity to join in-depth workshops that touch on the various aspects of game design and the business of video games in Africa.
There is a public portion of the event too where members can meet the various developers from the industry and witness some games in the making. Rex Bowden, co-founder and CEO of Africa Games Week says
“The upcoming edition of Africa Games Week is going to be our best yet. This year we are taking the event beyond a conference to an industry- and community-building, knowledge-developing, creative-awakening, melting pot of Africa’s most amazing talent and opportunities for the gaming industry.”
If you didn’t know, Cape Town is already South Africa’s top game development destination with more than 60% of game studios based in the Mother City. The City of Cape Town has once again partnered with Africa Games Week to help promote the event and urges the public to stop by and check it out.
The public can attend the live exhibition at Workshop 17. Here, they will be able to meet and network with those manning over thirty stands. The exhibition includes international brands, rising developers and start-ups from all around Africa. The public exhibition is the perfect place for those who want to get involved in the industry.
The business event is built on four sub-conferences that take place throughout the duration of the show – Games for Change, Mobile Growth Summit, Mage Games Africa and Africa StreamerCon. Each sub-conference is packed with interesting keynotes and technical workshops to attend. They will also offer unique one-to-one meetings and networking events.
