God of War Ragnarok is a big game. When you pick it up at launch it is going to take over your life. So much so that you’ll need to dedicate at least 25 hours of your life only to the main story in the game and another 40-60 hours to complete the side quests and endgame content.
While I didn’t mention any specific game time, I actually completed the main story in 31 hours. That’s because I explored a lot and made sure I didn’t leave any unfinished business in a realm when I left it. However, the game does force you to revisit realms a couple of times over. You’ll get items that unlock new places to visit as well as combat encounters. These are optional and add to the 40-60 hours needed for 100% completion.

Of course, this time can also vary depending on how you play the game. Various difficulties in God of War Ragnarok will take longer to get through due to the healthier enemies. The toughest combat encounters might also be impossible to beat until you have better gear. You’ll likely keep retrying them over and over again until you admit defeat.
So if you’re aiming to get a platinum trophy in God of War Ragnarok, for example. Expect to spend over 50 hours in the game. There are trophies behind collecting items, killing Odin’s Ravens, making the best gear and other similar feats from the 2022 game.
God of War Ragnarok releases on 9 November for PS4 and PS5. Watch our video review of the game below.
