Prince of Persia 2008 Remake Reportedly in the Works

A remake of Prince of Persia 2008 is reportedly in the works at Ubisoft. The rumours first surfaced last month when two web domains were updated related to the game. Last week, the official Prince of Persia Twitter account tweeted some conceptual artwork from the game too, adding more fuel to the fire that a remake or remaster is coming.

The evidence was gathered by Reddit user Jasonvsfreddyvs, which revealed the information about the updated domains and recent artwork. The artwork itself is interesting as the Prince of Persia Twitter account shared the image stating that it just loved the image and thought it was worth sharing. However, given the timing of the two updated web domains and the image being shared, it seems oddly coincidental.

Of course, we still recommend taking this with a massive grain of salt. Video game Twitter accounts often share images or artwork from previous entries without them really leading to anything. It’s also worth noting that Ubisoft is already working a Prince of Persia remake with The Sands of Time. This could possibly be a current-gen remaster since it would require a bit less work than a ground-up remake, but that’s just speculation on our part.

The Prince of Persia series went dormant following the release of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands in 2022. Ubisoft shifted its focus to other IPs including Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry since then, but fan demand was high enough for the company to revive the franchise via Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, which is still without a concrete release date. Development of the remake was moved to Ubisoft Montreal after problems surfaced with original studios Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai.

It might be a while until we see a new Prince of Persia game, but we’ll take remakes and remasters for now.
